Westview Serving Opportunities

We believe that worship should involve some type of service to the Lord. It's not just about us; it's about worship. Every person has some gift that they can use in service for the kingdom and that is "YOUR MINISTRY".

Church membership is not just about attending church on Sunday's. It's about following God's commandments to go forth and preach the gospel, and while we understand that not everyone has that gift; you do have gifts that can be used in our quest to bring others to Christ. This page explains what goes on behind the scenes at our church and how you can be of help.

COMMITMENT
The word "commitment" speaks of a pledge or a promise to perform a task or carry out a duty. Over and over again, the New Testament urges us to love one another, to welcome one another, to serve one another, to teach one another, to encourage one another, to pray for one another, etc. As we faithfully pursue these responsibilities, we become more and more productive disciples of Jesus Christ. Commitment to Christ and the church is a vital part of becoming a glowing and growing Christian.

This booklet contains numerous ways you can become involved in the ministry of Westview. Here are some things to do and remember as you fill out this booklet.

Pray about where God can use you. Mark the areas where you are led to serve.

Please note that the single asterisk indicates areas done on a rotating basis and a double asterisk indicates that you must be a member of Westview Christian Church.

WORSHIP MINISTRY

Prepare Communion -
Volunteers prepare communion trays for the worship service.*

Lead prayer in worship.* **

Prepare and present communion meditations.* **

Servers -
Volunteers serve the Lord’s Supper to the congregation.*

Communion to shut-ins -
Volunteers take communion to shut-ins on Sunday afternoon.* **

Sound Tech -
This ministry team runs the sound system and makes tapes of worship services. Training is required.*

Projectionist -
This person runs the projection during Morning Worship. Training is required.*

Clean up after services -
This involves picking up communion cups and bulletins after morning worship.*

Baptism Preparation -
This person helps assist people as they come forward to be baptized.*

Baptism Laundry -
This person takes home and washes the towels and robes after a baptism.*

Cleaning Baptism Pool -
Our pool needs to be cleaned regularly and we need a responsible person to take care of this on an "as needed" basis. This role can be shared with someone else, but we are seeking a person to take charge and organize this duty.

EVANGELISM MINISTRY

Welcome Center Host -
Volunteers will be at the welcome center before morning worship to give out information about the church.*

Greeter -
Volunteers need to be in the foyer by 10:20 a.m. to greet people as they come into worship. The greeters pass out bulletins, help people to the nursery and children’s classes, and direct visitors to the welcome center for other information.*

Parking Lot Greeter -
Volunteers will greet people as they get out of their cars and help people who need umbrella assistance on rainy days. The church has umbrellas.*

Bake Cookies -
I would be glad to bake cookies to be delivered to our first-time visitors.*

First Response Team - I would be glad to deliver cookies to the homes of our first-time visitors.

Visitation Teams -
Volunteers will make calls on visitors and members who need encouragement.

Encouragement Cards -
Volunteers will send cards to members who’ve missed church for two consecutive weeks.*

ADULT MINISTRY

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

Children’s Church Greeter -
I would like to greet new families as they visit the church and direct them to our children’s classrooms. I will also help gather information by having them fill out a blue registration card.*

Sunday School Teacher -

This person makes coffee, pours juice and sets out pastries for the fellowship time.*

CREATIVE ARTS MINISTRY

Decorating -
I would enjoy being a part of a team that decorates for special occasions.

Art Work -
I would be glad to be a part of a team that does art work for special occasions.

PROPERTY MINISTRY

Cleaning Main Building -
This involves cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, dusting, cleaning glass doors, etc.*

Yard Work

Weed eating and blowing off sidewalks and the parking lot.*

Trim bushes - This needs to be done approximately 3 times a year.

Building Needs -
I would like to be called upon for the following:

Carpentry work

Electrical work

Plumbing work

Painting

Playground Upkeep -
I would like to be a part of a team that maintains the playground. This team would be responsible for spraying for weeds and fire ants, maintaining playground equipment, and cleaning as needed.

Church Van Maintenance -
I would like to help keep the van serviced and maintained.

SPECIAL NEEDS MINISTRY

Food Preparation - I would like to be on a team that prepares meals for someone who has just come home from the hospital or has had a death in the family.

Nursing Home Ministry - I would like to join the group that goes to Landmark Nursing Home once a month to sing and visit the patients.

PRAYER MINISTRY

I would like to help organize special times of prayer for our congregation and keep the church informed of prayer needs at home, in our country, and in our world.

Prayer Chain - I would like to be on the prayer chain for people who request prayer for special needs. This is a combination of men, women, and teens. You must be willing to make at least one phone call.

Golf-a-Thon -
Would you like to help organize the annual golf-a-thon which includes securing the golf course, gathering prizes, and recruiting players.

Marriage Retreat -
I would like to help plan an overnight retreat for couples of all ages. This team will plan the menu, determine the sessions, secure a retreat location, etc.

LEADERSHIP MINISTRY

In the future I would like to attend one of our Bible Colleges to prepare myself for a specialized ministry.
